Antique French Vernis Martin Lacquer Clock ~ Planchon -  Paris ~ ~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A large and beautiful antique French Vernis Martin style lacquer clock. Decorated in exquisite Eau de Nil ground with delicate floral swags, mounted with crisp ormolu (finely gilded bronze) mounts.

The large dial is porcelain enamel on copper with beautifully cut gilt hands. It is signed in homage to the 18th century clockmaker Hardel of Paris. The bezel is fitted with convex glass.

The French movement is of high quality and is by Planchon of Paris. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video below to hear the bell and watch the clock running.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. The lacquer is also in lovely condition with an old craquelure, marks, discolouration and losses to the edges that only add to the antique character of the clock. The dial is excellent with no damage. 

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
