The dial is also porcelain, painted with a scene of a chateau by a lake. The urn to the top of the case and the lower panels are beautifully painted with floral swags, butterflies and birds. The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. Please note that this type of clock does not have a glazed bezel.

The French movement is by Le Roy et Fils and is of excellent quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video below to hear the bell and watch the clock running.

Condition of the case is excellent, the gilding is clean and bright with some wear and discolouration in places. The porcelain is very good, there is some wear, some minor loss to the applied 'jewels' and overglaze decoration. The dial is also very good, lettering is slightly worn and there is some slight chipping around the winding holes.

Le Roy et Fils (founded 1785)

The prestigious company of Le Roy et Fils was founded in 1785 by Basile Charles Le Roy. He worked in partnership with his son Charles-Louis Le Roy. Both father and son became highly influential clock makers in the 19th Century, taking commissions from Napoleon I and his sister, Princess Pauline, as well as the Duke de Bourbon and other members of the European social elite. In addition to having a showroom in Paris, Le Roy et Fils had a property on New Bond Street in London. The company was the only foreign clockmaking firm to hold a British Royal Warrant during the reign of Queen Victoria.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
