The Last Farewell
- GCR Nottingham Victoria by Ken Allsebrook
~~ Excellent condition, ready to hang ~~
A poignant tribute to the twilight of British steam, this original 1974 oil painting captures the historic final journey of Class GCR 64354 on October 13th, 1962. Titled "The Last Farewell", the artwork depicts the locomotive departing Retford for Nottingham Victoria, hauling the last steam-hauled passenger service on that route.
Meticulously detailed, the scene is filled with nostalgic atmosphere—curling steam, crimson Mk1 coaches, and railwaymen lining the platform to bid farewell. Painted with rich, warm tones, the composition powerfully evokes the end of an era.
A hand-written note affixed to the reverse documents the occasion, naming driver Stanley Adams and fireman Gordon Inman of Retford
GC shed—adding authenticity and personal history to the piece. A compelling
addition to any railway collection, enthusiast’s gallery, or heritage display.
By the accomplished railway artist Ken Allsebrook, (there is one of his works on the BBC your paintings website) we have been fortunate to secure
3 paintings by the artist.
In lovely
good condition, oil on board, some slight marks. Framed and ready to hang. Signed and dated,
titled to the reverse.
