Porcelain is decorated with a pompadour rose pink background, the panel below the dial is delicately painted with a scene of a young couple in a country setting, he serenades her with a lute. Below this is a panel of floral swags musical instruments. The dial shows the couple again in a romantic country setting. Above the dial is a porcelain urn with ormolu handles and a pineapple finial. To the sides are floral swags and goddess masks. Please note that this style of clock does not have a glazed bezel over the dial or a rear door. The clock comes with its original gesso base.

The French movement is by Achille Brocot and is of superb quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. It is fitted with a dead-beat escapement and rack striking. Pendulum is a original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Achille Brocot was a member of the renowned Brocot clockmaking family, the eldest son of Louis Gabriel Brocot. He was treasurer to La Société des Horlogers in Paris and was awarded First Class Medal at the 1855 Paris Exhibition -  Tardy, Dictionnaire des Horlogers.

Charles Frodsham (1810-1871) was a distinguished English clockmaker, establishing the firm Charles Frodsham & Co which remains in existence as the longest continuously trading firm of chronometer makers in the world. the firm moved to 84 Strand in 1843.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with just some slight wear in places. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles next to the winding holes. Porcelain is in excellent condition with some very occasional and slight wear to the over-glaze gilt decoration and some losses to the half hour jewel marks on the dial. The Chas Frodsham signature is rubbed on the dial. We have recovered the gesso base with fresh fabric.

Achille Brocot mark on the movement back plate and Charles Frodsham signature on the dial, rubbed and faint but reads "Chas Frosham and Co, to the Queen, 84 the Strand and dated 187*".

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
