The large and superb dial is porcelain enamel on copper, delicately painted with floral swags between the hours. It is complete with original finely fretted gilt hands. The dial is faintly signed for the retailer Peace and Sons, Paris. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. It is the large square plate version of the Pendule de Paris movement with dead beat escapement and rack striking. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on gong. Click the video clip below to hear the gong and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, the shell veneer is in lovely condition beautifully mellowed and figured. There are a few slight marks and minor cracking. The ormolu is beautifully clean and bright. The dial is also in excellent condition just a small chip near the edge at the 3 o'clock and some hairlining near the 9 o'clock.
Complete with original pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
