Huge Antique French Brass Clock~ French - Circa 1870 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ This is a very large and heavy original antique French brass clock. It is very decorative in the classical style, beautifully, modelled and finished. To each side is a Caryatid, supporting the cavetto cornice upon her head. Above this a bell shaped top is blind fretted with scroll work and has a large elaborate, pieced urn of acanthus leaves. Below the dial is a lions mask holding a swag within its mouth.
The dial is fixed within a large heavy bezel that is fitted with convex glass. The dial is also brass, with 12 individual enamel cartouches and original stunning hand cut blued steel hands. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous coiled gong. Click the video clip below to hear the gong and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is
excellent, clean and bright with hardly any
wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent
condition, some of the cartouches are faded. There is a light scratch on the
original glass. Complete with pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
