The model for this superb bronze figure was produced by the renown sculptor Hippolyte Francois Moreau, born in Dijon in 1832, the second son of Jean-Baptisite Moreau. A member of the fabulous Moreau family, he first exhibited at the Salon 1859 and had a long and successful career exhibiting until 1913. He is well known for his allegorical figures of young women. His signature is inscribed to the base of the figure. Reference: Pierre Kjellberg, Bronzes of the 19th century 1994. Condition of the case is very good, the onyx is clean with a good polish and some slight discolouration and nibbles to the edges. The ormolu is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration, there are two small pieces missing from the rear of the case and the beaded ring to the top is slightly distorted. The bronze figure is in excellent condition with a lovely original patination with some wear to the high spots as you expect with an antique figure. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage. There are a couple of light scratches to the glass.
Complete with pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
