Stunning Ormolu and Specimen Marble Four Glass Crystal Regulator Set
by Fritz Marti

~ French - Circa 1900 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A very elegant clock set featuring a beautifully modelled eagle to the top. It is a library four glass or crystal regulator with curved side panels and bevelled glass to all four sides. It is beautifully made in the classical style from a fine specimen marble, with salmon pink and silver blue veining, mounted with finely finished ormolu (gilded brass/bronze). The movement is mounted within the four glass case, allowing both the movement and the mercury temperature compensating pendulum to be seen working.

The dial is very chic with a fine acanthus surround and engine turned centre in ormolu. It is enamel on copper with finely cut and blued steel hands.

The French movement is of high quality and has the Fritz Marti 'Paris Medaille d' Or' mark on the back plate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Mercury compensated pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous coiled gong. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the marble has a fine original polish with just an occasional tiny nibble to the edges. One urn has some hair lining along the original striations of the marble and a small area of original filling of the rock, only noticeable on close inspection. Ormolu is in excellent condition with a bright and clean finish. Glass is excellent, just a tiny chip to the right hand corner of the front glass. This is a stunning clock set ready for you to display.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
