Antique Clock Set ~ Bacchus Themed Putti

A stunning original antique French clock set, Bacchus themed with two charmingly depicted putti or cherubs, the little boy holding grapes and the little girl holding a sheave of wheat. They are beautifully modelled and finely finished in bronze patinated metal which has a lovely deep green / brown colour. The bases are sienna marble, lovely pinkish off white with a strong orange figure running through it, complements the metal work beautifully. It is  mounted with a gilt metal frieze. The vases are loosely modelled on the Gustave Dore Bacchus themed vase and features a naturalistically modelled vine handle and a cherub highlighted in gilt.

The dial is enamel on copper with delicate floral swags between the letters and the original beautifully fretted gilt brass hands.

The French movement is by Société Clusienne of Cluses near the Swiss border. It is of the highest quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the movie below to watch this clock running.

Condition of the case is very good, the original bronzed patination is in very good condition with a few marks or scratches in places and some wear on the high points. One vase has a repair to the base of the metal ware. The marble is also in very good condition with just some small nibbles to the edges. It has a lovely polish. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage, there are a couple of marks that are original and under the glaze. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
