Japy Freres Antique French Blue and White Vase Clock Set

~ French - Circa 1900 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A beautiful, original antique French clock set, very large and decorative. The delft style faïence or pottery bodies are decorated with blue transfer decoration over a white ground which contrasts beautifully with the gilded brass mounts. To the base of each body is an impressed mark De Winter et Fils Brussels. Each piece is fitted with two ornate handles modelled as mythical creatures. Candelabra have elaborate scrolling branches. The base of the clock has an engraved inscription dated 1900.

The dial enamel on copper with blued steel hands.

The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the maker's horse shoe mark on the backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition, no chips or scratches. There are two small marks but these are under the enamel and so must have been there when it was made. Candelabra are slightly distorted. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.

Japy Freres mark on the movement backplate, mark on the bottom of the pottery bodies.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
