Antique French Gilt Brass Clock
Set ~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A beautiful original antique French clock set, in lovely clean and bright condition. It is substantially and finely modelled in gilded brass, in the classical Louis XVI style, with sharp, chased decoration to the front panels and the sides. It is architectural in design, formed as a pair of columns with a niche between and a broken arch pediment with a lions mask.
To the top is a large urn with mythical creatures forming the handles and it sits on scrolled bracket feet. The dial is formed of brass with 12 individual enamel cartouche numbers and original blued steel hands, covered by convex glass. Samuel Marti is the clockmaker and their mark is on the movement's backplate. We have professionally cleaned and overhauled the movement and then rigorously tested it to ensure trouble free running. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous bell. It is complete with replacement pendulum, bell and a suitable key. You can watch the clock running in the video clip below. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with just some slight marks and discolouration in places. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles around the winding holes. Candelabra are slightly distorted.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
