Large Rococo Cartel Wall Clock

A large, bold and stunning original antique French brass Rococo cartel clock, classic Rococo asymmetrical shape with bold and flamboyant scrolls and foliage. It is beautifully modelled in gilt brass, scrolling foliage forms the case, backed with fretwork backed with gilded brass. To the shoulders are leaves and flowers and an ornate finial sits on the top. The superb large dial is enamel on copper with a brass centre and is complete with original blued steel hands and convex bevelled glass. The modelling is crisp and well detailed with a bright and clean finish.

The French movement is by the well known maker Japy Freres and has the clockmakers 'Grande Medaille D'Honneur' mark on the movement backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition, no chips or scratches.
