Large Antique French Rococo Clock

A large and stunning original antique French brass table clock in lovely condition. The style is Rococo, waisted keyhole shape with acanthus leaf shoulders, 'C' scroll bracket feet an elaborate fretted arch with flowers to the top. It stands on its original integral base, heavily modelled with splayed feet and acanthus leaves. The dial is enamel on copper and features beautiful Louis XV style finely fretted hands. The heavy bezel is fitted with convex glass.

Below the dial is a collection of musical trophies, a lute, pipes and a book of music. The front, rear and the sides of the case have fretted sound panels backed with red velvet. The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The design is beautifully bold and heavily moulded in brass, well chased and finished. It is modelled in the round and so would display very well on a table.

The French movement is by Samuel Marti and has the makers 'gold medal' mark on the back plate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a large, sonorous bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with a clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some minor wear / surface scratches and discolouration in places. We have replaced the red velvet with new. The dial is also in excellent condition with just a some minor nibbles around the winding holes and a couple of light marks. This is a stunning clock in excellent condition, ready for your collection.
