Large Antique Clock Set by Japy Freres

A very large and impressive original antique French gilt brass clock set by the famous maker Japy Freres. It is in the Louis XVI style, architecturally designed and decorated with flowing elaborate foliage. To the arched top is a large pieced urn with scrolling foliate handles. To the front, a finely detailed fretted panel allows the pendulum to be seen swinging within the case. Candelabra are similarly styled with pieced urns and bold scrolling arms. Snuffers sit in the middle nozzle as a finial when not in use. This is a stunning and substantial clock set with a superb original gild.

The large enamel dial has a cream background with red crown half-hour markers, large blued steel hands and convex glass fitted to the hobnail bezel. The rear door is glazed with frosted glass.

The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the makers mark on the backplate. It is of high quality with pin-pallet escapement and rack striking. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in good condition just some nibbles to the winding holes and a couple of small hairlines. Candelabra are slightly distorted. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
