The beautiful dial is enamel on copper, with separate minute ring and hour ring lettered in blue. Inside the hour ring is the Paris retailers name and address Jallifier of Boulavard Saint-Dennis. Jallifier is listed in Tardy, Dictionnaire Horlogers Francais as working between 1850 and 1860. It is fitted with finely fretted brass hands and convex glass to the hobnail bezel. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen.
The French movement is of high quality and has the early Japy Freres mark on the movement backplate. It is the earlier type of Pendule De Paris movement with outside hammer stop spring but with the more reliable spring suspension. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is very good, the finish is polished bronze so this is not a bright shiny finish, more of a mellow antique. It may have originally been gilded but there is no trace now. The dial is in excellent condition with no damage. The porcelain is in good condition, there is some very minor loss to the over-glaze gilt decoration. There are some light scratches on the glass. A stunning, early clock to add to your collection.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
