Early Antique French Brass Clock

A large and earlier antique French brass clock set. It is a beautifully bold baroque design with mythical creatures and lions masks. The front of the case is elaborately fretted to allow the pendulum to be seen swinging within the case. The the top of the clock is a large handled urn with a pineapple finial. Candelabra are conforming in style with branches incorporating mythical creatures and masks. 

The dial is enamel on copper with delicately fretted, blued steel hands. The bezel is fitted with convex glass, the bezel is a later replacement, however looks perfectly good.

The French movement is of high quality and is by the Paris maker Guyerdet, his mark is on the movement backplate. It is the earlier design of the Pendule De Paris movement with outside strike hammer spring stop and narrow anchor escapement. He is listed in Tardy as working in the Rue Du Temple in 1860. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Condition of the case is excellent, beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles to the edge at 10 O'clock and 3 O'clock that are only noticeable on close inspection. Candelabra are slightly distorted. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
