Sevrs
Porcelain and Ormolu ~ French - Circa 1860 ~ ~~ Excellent original condition ~~ A very high quality and early ormolu boudoir clock by Japy Fils, mounted with the most exquisitely decorated porcelain panels in the manner of Sevrs. The case, being ormolu, is finely modelled with crisp detail, porcelain is painted with equal quality and delicacy. The porcelain has a Rose Pompadour ground with scenes of courtship to the dial and main panel. Remaining panels and the two urns have finely painted floral swags. The case is of drum head shape with a curved front. It is fitted with curved porcelain panels and two urns with flaming finials. A finely cast floral swag is elegantly draped around the dial. The top is surmounted by a further porcelain urn with an 'urn of plenty' top. The ormolu is in excellent original condition, it is finely chased and has a clean and bright finish. Each porcelain piece is inscribed on the reveres with the artists signature and the clock serial number which is also on the movement, pendulum and both bezels - see the pictures below. The Japy Fils movement is of high quality and is fitted with a pin-pallet escapement and rack striking. The 'Japy Fils 1855' mark is on the movement backplate along with the retailers mark 'CAF'. It runs for 8 days and strikes half hourly on a bell, and is complete with original pendulum and bell. It has been fully overhauled by our clock maker and is in excellent working order. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition is
excellent, the ormolu is bright and clean with just some slight wear to the high
points. The porcelain is also in excellent condition with no chips or scratches,
overglaze gilt decoration is also very good, the only slight fault is that some
of the blue half-hour jewel markers are missing which is not unusual. The clock displays beautifully as
you can see below! A stunning and early clock ready for your collection!
