Sevres Porcelain and Gilt Boudoir Clock
by Japy Freres

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition ~~

A beautiful, small Japy Freres boudoir clock, gilt metal with exquisitely painted porcelain panels in the manner of Sevres. Porcelain has a rich blue ground, beautifully decorated with floral swags. The panel below the dial features a blue tit amongst flowers. The dial itself is signed to the reverse by the artist along with the movement serial number.

The French movement is by the famous maker Japy Freres and has their 'Grande Medaille de Honour' mark on the movement backplate, dating the clock to before 1888. We have stripped, cleaned and fully overhauled the movement. Duration of the movement is 8 days between winding and it sounds the hours and half-hours on a sonorous bell. Pendulum is a replacement. Below we have a video of the movement running and striking.

Condition of the case is good with wear to the gilding, we have polished the case to a bright finish. The porcelain is also in good condition with some wear in places, particularly to the over glaze gilt decoration and there is some wear to the blue ground on close inspection.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

Dimensions of clock:

inches Height 14", Width 8", Depth 5 1/4"
centimetres Height 35.5 cm, Width 20 cm, Depth 12.5 cm

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
