Stunning Japy Freres Sevres Porcelain &
Gilt Metal Clock,
The Butterfly Collectors.

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition ~~

A stunning clock by the famous maker Japy Freres, gilt metal with exquisitely painted porcelain panels in the manner of Sevres. Porcelain has a pompadour blue ground and each piece is delicately decorated with floral swags and over glaze gilt decoration. The clock depicts two charming cherubs attempting to collect butterflies around the clock. Cherubs are beautifully modeled, full of life and movement. The clock itself is housed in a drum with laurel wreaths and surmounted by a porcelain mounted urn with a 'bowl of plenty' finial. The case is beautifully made and is signed by the case maker 'Brunfaut' on the rear of the clock housing. Porcelain is signed on the reverse, see the picture below.

The French movement has the Japy Freres 'Grande Medaille D'Honneur' mark along with the Paris retailers mark of HP & Co. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement as is the minute hand. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is very good, there is some wear to the gilding and some slight bubbling or flaking. The porcelain is in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. The over glaze gilt decoration is also very well preserved with only some very minor rubbing.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
