Antique French Table Clock

A Superb French table clock in excellent original condition. The gilding is lovely, clean and fresh. The clock is gothic in style with pillars at each corner, fretted panels with grotesque masks, gargoyle to each corner and is surmounted by a winged putti or cherub playing a horn. The feet are acanthus scrolls and the top of each side has a Reynolds angel.

The dial is in the form of a heavy brass back ground mounted with individual letter cartouches. The outside of the dial is engraved with the minutes. The blued steel hands are original.

The French movement is of excellent quality and runs for 8 days and strikes on a gong (click the movie below to hear the gong). It is in excellent clean and running condition.

Condition of the case and candelabra is excellent, there are no losses and the finish of the gilt brass is clean and bright. There is some slight wear to the gilding in just a few places.

The clock is modelled on all sides and hence would look great on a table in the centre of a room or on a shelf or mantle.
