Japy Freres Antique French Gothic Clock Set

A Large and impressive Antique French Gothic clock set by Japy Freres. The clock is beautifully made in gilt brass - very heavy and crisply modelled and much of the original gilding remains. The style is typical of French gothic, with lions masks, hairy paw feet and flowing foliage. The body of the clock is fretted and modelled as a niche embedded in the overgrown foliage. The front of the clock is fretted to lighten the design and enable the pendulum to be seen.

The clock is complete with a matching pair of vases. These are gilt brass hollowware with gilt brass bases to match the clock.

 The dial is enamel on copper and the bezel is cast with the egg and dart border.

The French Japy Freres movement is of excellent quality and has the Japy Freres mark on the back plate of the movement.  The movement runs for 8 days and strikes on a bell. We have cleaned and serviced the movement and fitted 2 new springs - it  is in excellent, clean and running condition.

Condition of the case and candelabra is excellent, there are no losses and the finish of the gilt brass is clean and bright. There is some wear to the gilding in places and also some slight discolouration. The dial has a few hairline cracks and a slight chip at one winding hole - see picture below - these do not really detract
