Antique French Tortoiseshell and Ormolu Table Clock

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition ~~

A stunning Rococo clock of red tortoiseshell veneer and finely cast and gilded ormolu. The tortoiseshell has a lovely rich patina and the original gilding of the ormolu is bright and clean. The mounts are typically Rococo, flowing foliage, a laurel wreath, and surmounted by a cherub holding a wine glass and a bunch of grapes.

The superb dial features 25 individual enamel cartouches applied to a heavy ormolu back. The delicate blued steel hands are original.

The French movement is of the highest quality and our clockmaker has cleaned and serviced the movement - it is in excellent clean and running condition. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a coiled gong.

Click the movie below to hear the gong and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is very good. The tortoiseshell has faded to an antique brown on the left hand shoulder of the case, see the picture below. There is a small split and a small piece missing from the veneer behind the rear leg of the clock which is hardly noticeable. The ormolu is in excellent condition with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. The dial is also in very good condition with just a fine crack through the enamel on the number four cartouche. The clock looks great as you can see below!

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

A very decorative and high quality clock ready for your home!

Dimensions of clock: Height 21 1/2", Width 9", Depth 6".
