Japy Freres Neoclassical Four Glass Clock Set.

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition ~~

A very chic and stunning Japy Freres four glass clock set. Beautifully made in a variegated specimen marble mounted with ormolu (fine gilded bronze/brass) and bronze. The four sides of the clock are glazed with bevelled glass to allow the movement to be seen along with the large sunburst ormolu pendulum swinging. Dial is enamel on copper decorated with delicate floral swags between the numerals and is complete with original finely fretted hands. The clock is accompanied by a matching pair of neoclassical urns mounted on marble bases with ormolu handles.

The French movement is of high quality and has the Japy Freres 'Grande Medaille  D'Honneur' mark on the backplate It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled and polished by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original.  It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is very good. Ormolu is clean with just some minor wear and discolouration. Marble is very good, some slight nibbles to the edges and some surface scratches in places, particularly to the top of the clock. One urn base has an original fault through the marble on the front of the base. One urn back foot has been replaced with a different design. The bronze is also very good with a generally even patination. Glass panels are original and are very good with no chips. Dial is very good with just some faint hairlining and scratches. The gilded interior floor has some light scratches. The set displays very nicely as you can see below.

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
