Antique French Gilt Brass Table Clock

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition ~~

A stunning gilt brass table clock in excellent original condition and of a small size. The original gilding is very good, clean and bright. It is classically modelled with columns to each side of the dial decorated with dolphins. The panel between the columns is fretted allowing the pendulum to be seen swinging within the case. Below this is a Reynold's angel. There are also Mythical creatures and elaborate flowing foliage. The clock stands on a base which is also finely pierced with scrolling foliage and acanthus leaf feet and the clock is surmounted by an urn with mythical creatures.

The dial is also brass and is mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches. the rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is of high quality and runs for 8 days on one wind. It strikes half hourly on a bell and is complete with original pendulum and bell. It has been fully overhauled by our clock maker and is in excellent working order. Click the video below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition is excellent, the case has a clean and bright finish with some minor wear or tarnish and there are no repairs or losses. The dial is also in excellent condition with some minor chipping around the some of the cartouches. The clock displays beautifully as you can see below!

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
