Antique French Cartel Wall Clock

A stunning antique French cartel wall clock, resplendent in its original gilding which is bright and clean. It is Baroque in style and features a grotesque mask, mythical creatures, urns and a flaming finial.

The dial is enamel on copper with a cast brass centre and is complete with original blued steel hands. Glass is bevelled and convex.

The French movement is by Samuel Marti and has their 'gold medal, Paris, 1900' mark on the movement backplate. It is of high quality and has the benefit of the superior pin-pallet escapement. We have stripped, cleaned and fully overhauled the movement. We then tested the movement for at least 2 weeks to prove its reliability. Pendulum is a new replacement. Duration of the movement is 8 days between winding and it sounds the hours and half-hours on a sonorous bell. Below we have a video of the movement running and striking.

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some very minor wear to the original gilding. The dial is also in excellent condition, no chips or scratches. 

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
