Large and Stunning Antique French Gilt Brass Clock Set. ~ Antique French
- Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled and running ~~
A very large and stunning original antique French,
Louis XVI style clock set. It is beautifully modelled in gilded brass, very
decorative architectural style covered in elaborate scroll and foliate
decoration. A delicate fretwork panel to the front of the clock allows the
pendulum to be seen swinging within the case
The bold arched top above the dial
is also fretted and to the top is an urn. The six light candelabra are similarly
modelled and have arms modelled as scrolling foliage. Snuffers fit in the middle
sconces as finials when not in use.
The dial is also gilded
brass and is mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches for the hours. These
are blue enamel on a white background. There is also a vacant cartouche for the
retailers signature.
The French movement
is of high quality and has the clockmakers mark L.S. Boname, Selencourt on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having
been fully serviced by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8
days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear
the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is
excellent with clean and bright finish. There is some
very minor wear and discolouration, particularly to some of the nozzle inserts.
There is a slightly original casting fault above the dial. One nozzle insert has
some minor loss to the edge and one drip tray is a slightly different design. The dial
is in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. The glass has a very light
scratch.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions
supplied if required.

About us
- All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in
France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in
original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have
developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul
the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they
will run trouble free.
