Antique French Tortoiseshell and Ormolu Table Clock

A stunning Rococo clock of red tortoiseshell veneer and finely cast and gilded ormolu. Typically Rococo with a waisted balloon shape and asymmetric top. The tortoiseshell has a lovely rich patina and the original gilding of the ormolu is bright and clean. The superb enamel dial is complete with the original blued steel hands.

The French movement is of the highest quality. Our clockmaker has cleaned and serviced the movement - it is in excellent clean and running condition and is complete with the original pendulum. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a coiled gong.

Condition of the case is very good. The tortoiseshell has a lovely figuring and is in very good condition, just a small mark on the right hand shoulder. Ormolu is bright and clean and in excellent condition with just some wear to the gilding on the high spots. The dial has some slight chipping around the winding holes, mostly the right hand side. The clock looks great as you can see below!

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
