Stunning Sevres Porcelain and Gilt Metal Clock Set ~ Love

~ French - Circa 1890 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A large and very decorative gilt metal clock set mounted with exquisitely painted Sevres style porcelain urns and panels. The panels show scenes of a young couple in a country setting, in one he plays the lute to her, in another they drink wine and in the third he presents her with a gift. The urns are beautifully painted with a red ground with rural scenes and flowers. The dial is decorated with delicate floral swags and is complete with original finely cut brass hands.

The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. The HP and Co mark is on the backplate. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Please note that this type of clock doesn't have a glazed bezel or back door.

Condition of the case is very good, there is wear to the original gilding and we have polished it to a bright and clean finish as you can see in the pictures below. The rear of the case has some original foundry faults which don't detract and there is some stress cracking to one foot and the top of the base of one side piece. The tip of the front left hand foot of the clock has been repaired at some time, it strong and doesn't detract. The porcelain is in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. The vast majority of the over-glaze gilt decoration is fresh and complete with remarkably little wear including the dial. This is a stunning clock to add to your collection.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
