Japy Freres Sevres Porcelain and gilt candelabra clock set.

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ good condition ~~

A very decorative Gilt clock by the famous maker Japy Freres. It is gilded metal with finely painted Sevres style porcelain plaques and vases, these are in a light blue ground. The dial is delicately decorated with a floral swag and the front of the clock has a panel with a cherub below the dial and another with musical trophies above. The vases of the candelabra have finely painted cherubs with a floral panel beneath. The feet of the clock case and the candelabra are elaborately modelled as entangled vines and the top of the clock is surmounted by a pair of doves, a harp and a quiver of arrows - allegories of love.

The metal work is very well modelled and was made by the maker P H Mourey - the makers mark is on the reverse of the clock and each candelabra.

The Japy Freres movement is in excellent clean and running condition. The clock runs for 8 days and strikes half-hourly on a bell and is complete with bell, an old replacement pendulum and key.

Condition of the case is good and displays well. The gilding is in good condition with some minor wear or bubbling in places. The rear foot of the clock case has been repaired as have the grape vine feet of both candelabra. At some time the arms of one candelabra have been repaired - the repairs are not noticeable and do not detract. Condition of the porcelain is good with no chips or cracks - most of the over glaze gilt decoration has rubbed of and there is some discoloration to the blue ground in places - especially the vase on the right hand side of the clock case where the blue has worn away on the inside - because this is against the side of the clock, it is hardly seen.

A very decorative clock set, ready for your home!
