French Gilt and Sevres Porcelain Clock - The Artist

~ French - Circa 1870 ~

A most beautiful French figural clock depicting an artist, seated at work. The modelling of this piece is quite exquisite, note the beautifully delicate hand holding a brush and the palette by his side. The Sevres style porcelain panels are beautifully painted with cherubs and the front lower panel is painted with floral swags. The clock stands on it's original gilt wood plinth.

The case is by the famous maker P.H. Mouney, an is of typically high quality. The base of the clock is decorated with floral swags and scrolls which are also very nicely modelled. The P.H. Mouney mark is on the rear of the case.

The French movement is of excellent quality and has the makers mark on the back plate. It runs for 8 days and strikes on a bell and is in excellent, clean and running condition -

it is complete with the original bell and a replacement pendulum.

Condition of the clock excellent, the gilding is bright, fresh and in good condition. The porcelain plaques are also in good condition with no chips or cracks - the over glaze gold decoration is rubbed in places. The porcelain dial has a professional repair at the 3 o'clock position which is hardly noticeable - see the close up picture below. The original gilt wood plinth is in good condition - the clock is ready to display.
