Large Antique French Clock - S Marti et Cie

A large and decorative French Gilt Brass Clock, beautifully modelled with floral swags and bouquets, slightly Gothic in design with hoof rear legs and animal masks. The front of the case is fretted so that the pendulum is just visible.

The S. Marti movement is of excellent quality and has the makers mark (bronze medal awarded 1860) on the back plate of the movement.

The movement runs for 8 days and strikes on a bell and is in excellent, clean and running condition.

Condition of the case is very good, there are no losses and the finish of the brass has mellowed to a lovely rich antique patina, with the high spots worn. The enamel dial is cream with blue hour lettering and black minute ring in the style of the 18th century. The dial has some hairline cracks at the 2 o'clock position and some very minor chipping around the Brocot regulating shaft. There is a tiny chip to the edge of the glass/bezel which is not noticeable.
