The movement is by the famous French maker
Japy Freres and has their mark on the movement backplate.
It is the more unusual Japy Freres design with rack striking, pin-pallet
escapement and a split backplate allowing the barrels to be removed. It is in excellent
clean and working condition having been fully stripped, cleaned and tested by
our clockmaker. He has also replaced the pendulum. It runs for 8 days on one
wind and strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell. You can see the movement
running and striking in the video clip below.
Condition of the case is
excellent with a bright and clean finish, there is some very minor wear to the original
gilding and some minor discolouration in places. The back box is a little
distorted but the rear cover fits nicely. The dial is in very
good condition with no chips or scratches.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions
supplied if required.

About us
- All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in
France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in
original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have
developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul
the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they
will run trouble free.
