Superb and Very Large Rococo Red Lacquer and Ormolu Bracket Clock
complete with original bracket

~ Antique French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully working ~~

A very large and stunning Rococo bracket clock, on its original bracket it is almost 4 feet in height. (See the picture below showing one of our Rococo clock sets for size comparison). The shape is the classic rococo key hole shape with glazed door to the front and glazed panels to the side, allowing the pendulum to be seen swinging within. It is red Vernis Martin style lacquer work, exquisitely painted with floral swags. The Ormolu mounts (Doré Bronze or fine gilded brass / bronze) are finely modelled and crisply chased with a lovely clean and bright original gilding. To the top is a beautifully large and flamboyant rococo finial.

The French movement is of the highest quality and has the Paris retailers mark on the movement backplate. It is the large square plated version of the Pendule de Paris movement and has the benefit of pin-pallet escapement. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original.  It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, The lacquer is in very good condition, there are a few very minor losses, slight scratches, knocks etc and a few small areas of touching in. Around the glazed side panels there is some minor flaking. The left hand glass has a tiny crack at one corner. The finish of the lacquer is very good, bright and clean with an slight antique crackelure to some areas. The Ormolu is bright and clean with no losses. Dial is also excellent with just one tiny hairline near the right hand winding hole, no chips or scratches. The front door lock is fully working with the original key.

Complete with original pendulum, door key, bell and a suitable winding key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
