Fabulous Antique French Ormolu Boudoir Clock ~ The Birth of Venus

A stunning and early French clock featuring the Birth of Venus from the famous painting by Botticelli. The classical goddess Venus emerges from the water on a shell, blown towards shore by the Zephyrs, symbols of spiritual passions.

The case is beautifully modelled in Ormolu (Bronze Dor�) and the fine chasing and finishing is excellent.   

The French movement is by Japy Fils and is of excellent quality. Japy Fils mark along with that of the Paris retailers mark are on the movement backplate. It has an enamel on copper dial with trefoil steel hands. It has been fully overhauled by our clockmaker, runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell, click the movie below to see and hear the movement.

The finish of the ormolu is excellent - bright and clean. There are some minor areas of wear or discoloration. The dial is in very good condition with just a small chip below the right hand winding hole. The lettering has also faded slightly.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
