Antique Bracket Clock ~ French - Circa 1820 ~ ~~ Excellent condition ~~ A rare and stunning original English antique bracket clock, dating from around 1820. It is of beautiful Regency design, lancet shaped case, superbly figured mahogany veneer inlaid with polish brass and ebony moulding. It is rare in having it's original mahogany wall bracket with dentil moulding and brass and ebony inlay. To the sides are brass sound frets, backed with silk and the ornamental carrying loops. The white painted dial is covered with convex glass fitted to a cast brass bezel and the hands are blued steel, delicately hand fretted. The rear door is also glazed with it's original glass to allow the movement to be seen. Both the rear door and the front bezel have working keys. The English movement is substantially made and of very good quality. It is twin fusee with hourly rack striking on a large, sonorous bell. It is in excellent clean and running condition and is complete with original pendulum and large, heavy winding key. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is
excellent, the mahogany has a lovely finish, there is some slight cracking to
the veneer in places and there is some very slight lifting to the brass inlay
and a tiny piece missing. The dial is very good, the 3 dial feet have been
lightly touched in and there are a couple of minor marks or scratches. The hands
have been repaired in the past. The original glass is very good, there are some
original bubbles, ripples etc as expected in glass that is 190 years old. The
silk behind the sound frets has been replaced at some time. The wall foot of the
bracket is slightly warped. Complete with original pendulum, bell and the winding and door keys. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
