Huge and Magnificent Antique French Gothic Cartel Wall Clock

A Stunning and rare Gothic wall clock, of architectural proportions at over 3 ft in height and constructed very heavily from solid brass. It features a large decorated brass bell hanging above the movement that the movement strikes every half hour (see the video clip below). The case is designed as a huge, elaborate, arched bracket from which the bell and movement hang. The is pendulum is visible swinging below.

This is a grand clock on a huge scale, it is difficult to sense the scale and weight of this clock from the pictures, it will require a substantial bolt, screw or hook to hang from and two people to safely lift it into position.

The large dial is enamel on copper and is complete with original blued steel hands.

The French movement has the Samuel Marti 'gold medal' mark on the movement backplate. It is the large, square plated version of the Pendule de Paris and has a specially made strike mechanism in order that the clock can strike the large bell. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses, there is some very minor wear on the high spots. The dial is also in excellent condition, no chips or scratches.
