Japy Freres Superb Antique Delftware and Gilt Brass Clock Set

~ French - Circa 1900 ~

~~ Excellent original condition ~~

Very large, standing at 29" high or nearly 2 1/2 feet, and stunning Japy Freres Delft style clock set. Possibly the most impressive we have seen. The bodies of the clock case and the candelabra are Blue and White Transfer Ware in the style of Delft. The pottery bodies are mounted with gilt brass dragons around the dial, an eagle finial and sea serpents are applied to the side of both the clock and the candelabra. The arms of the candelabra are modelled with a dragon on each arm. The finish of the gilt brass is clean and fresh.

The clock is complete with its original enamel on copper dial which is decorated in blue on white to match the case. The dial is covered with a convex glass bezel.

The transfer ware bodies were made in Brussels and have the makers mark on the underside of each piece. The decoration is typical of Delft ware being decorated with stylised flowers and parrots. The glaze has a lovely antique crazing appropriate for its age. No chips, cracks or restoration to the body of the clock case or candelabra.  Both the clock body and the candelabra are marked on the bases "De Winter et Fils Brussels" Each is also marked with "1905" which is probably the date.

Superb Japy Freres 8 day movement has the makers mark on the back plate and strikes half hourly on a bell. The movement has been overhauled by our clockmaker an is in excellent clean and running condition. Click the movement below to see and hear the clock running!

Condition of the clock is excellent - the finish of the brass is very good - bright and clean with some  areas of tarnish / discolouration. There are some slight surface scratches and the candelabra arms are very slightly distorted - nothing that detracts from the piece. The enamel dial is perfect.

A stunning centrepiece, great opportunity for the collector of antique transferware.

Dimensions of clock: Height 26", Width 15", Depth 9 1/2".

Dimensions of vases: Height 29 1/2", Width 13 1/2", Depth 13 1/2".
