~ Gustavian, Swedish - Vintage ~ ~~ Excellent original Condition ~~ A very decorative Gilt cartel clock - made in Sweden in the first half of the 20th century. Very good quality - the case is gesso work - plaster and wood, gilded. The high spots have worn to the red undercoat and some minor losses of gilding and plaster only add to the antique appearance. The movement is of superb quality - German made we think. The trade mark is shown below. The movement is large, heavy and well made, with an escapement which is similar to a Vienna regulator, dead beat with adjustable pallets. The clock has the appearance of a French early 19th century example, and would fit in very well with any 18th/19th century French interior. The style is from the Swedish Gustavian revival of the 20th century. It is decorated with roses within floral swags and a ribbon. The pendulum is visible below the dial. The movement runs for 8 days and strikes on a bell. Click here to watch the clock running! Click here to hear the bell strike! Condition of the clock is excellent and original. The gilding is in good condition, but not over bright. There are some slight losses to the gesso work, minor chips which help to age the clock. The movement is in excellent clean and running condition. The Gustavian style became popular again during the early 20th century; much thanks to the Swedish painter Carl Larsson who's illustrated watercolours of his own house exerted great influence. The movement has the original pendulum and bell and we will supply a suitable key Super looking clock for your home!
