Japy Freres Antique French Gothic
Gilt Brass Table Clock

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A stunning and top quality Japy Freres table clock in the Gothic style. It features profuse pieced gothic tracery over the front and sides allowing a glimpse of the pendulum swinging within. The dial is an unusual 4 piece cartouche design with a silvered backplate and fretted brass hands. Above the dial is a coat of arms with a lion rampant and to the sides are flying buttresses formed of stylised dolphins. It is styled in the round to allow it to stand on a table and has a glazed back door to allow the movement to be seen. A stunning clock to compliment your gothic interior.

The French movement is by Japy Freres and is of the makers usual high quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous coiled gong. Click the video clip below to hear the gong and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The finial is very slightly distorted. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles to the edges of the cartouches. The silvering of the backplate is worn to a mellow antique colour with wear on the raised edges.

Japy Freres 'Grande Medaille d'Honneur' mark on the movement backplate.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
