Antique French Marble Portico Clock Set

A very impressive marble portico clock set of beautiful green variegated specimen marble and surmounted by a panther. Panther is superb and very well sculpted, muscular and full of sinuous life and aggressive movement. It is not signed however the figure is after Cartier (Thomas Fran�ois 1879 - 1943) who is a well listed sculptor, see the Artprice database. Side urns are classical in style, modelled from patinated metal and decorated with twin handles and floral swags. Movement is mounted in a gilded metal drum suspended below the portico. The starburst pendulum swings below, between the pillars of the portico and the back door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is of high quality, it runs for 8 days and strikes half hourly on a bell and is complete with pendulum and a new bell. It has been fully overhauled by our clock maker and is in excellent working order. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition is excellent, the marble has a good polish and is clean and has just the usual very light nibbles to the edges in places. The corner of one of the urn bases has a small repair which is hardly noticeable. The gilding is of the metal is very good. There is some wear to the patination of the urns on the raised edges and the panther also has some wear. The dial is in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. The set displays beautifully as you can see below.
