Superb Japy Freres Clock Set - Nike, Goddess of Victory

A beautiful Baroque clock set by Japy Freres, featuring the Greek goddess of victory, Nike. A boldly modelled base, adorned with fruit and a cherub mask, supports the clock which is mounted in a sculpted drum. A figure of Nike, beautifully modelled with long sweeping wings stands to each side of the clock. The three branch candelabra have conforming trefoil bases on which stand three figures of the goddess.

The set is very well modelled in brass with bold, crisp detail and a lovely clean finish. It displays magnificently from all angles and is of a good size. The candelabra are modelled in the round and the clock has a glazed back door allowing the movement to be seen. It would look equally good on a table in the centre of your room or on a mantle shelf.

In Greek mythology, Nike (Greek Νίκη, pronounced /'nike/ "NEE-keh", meaning "Victory") , was a goddess who personified triumph and victory. She was capable of running and flying at great speeds and the sister of Cratos, Bia, and Zelus. Nike and her siblings were all companions of Zeus.

Dial is heavy cast brass mounted with individual enamel cartouches for each letter. The bezel is fitted with convex bevelled glass.

Japy Freres movement is of the highest quality, our clockmaker has cleaned and serviced the movement - it is in excellent clean and running condition. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Both the Japy Freres mark and the retailers mark are on the back plate of the movement. We have replaced the missing pendulum. Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some wear on the high spots and some slight discolouration or tarnish in one or two areas. The dial is also in very good condition with just some tiny chips around the winding holes. There is some very slight distortion to the candelabra.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
