Very Large French Candelabra Clock Set - Louis Japy et Cie

A Stunning, very large and impressive clock set standing 2 1/2 feet high, crisply and heavily modelled in brass. French gothic in style, the case is open fretwork, allowing the pendulum to be seen. It is decorated with gothic motifs, including lions mask, grotesques, dragons heads and entangled swags of foliage. The modelling is crisp and heavy The candelabra are complete with original snuffers.

The superb dial is designed in the manner of 18th century examples with separate enamel cartouches for each number, applied to a repousse brass background. The egg and dart bezel is fitted with thick bevelled glass.

The casting of the clock and candelabra are of the highest quality and the set looks great as you can see in the pictures. This is a large, heavy, high quality clock set.

The movement is of excellent quality, by Louis Japy et Cie. Louis Japy was the grandson of Frederic Japy who founded Japy Freres. It runs for 8 days and strikes half-hourly on a large sonorous bell.

The finish of the brass is excellent - bright and clean. There are some small areas of wear or discoloration, but these only give an antique patination to the clock rather than detracting. There are two small pieces of decoration missing from the side of each candelabra which are not noticeable. There is no damage to the dial.
