A lovely oak and mahogany country Longcase Clock dated from around 1835. The case has oak sides, plinth panel and trunk door, which are a light to medium colour. Extensive use of mahogany veneer of a rich flame red has been used together with rosewood. The dial is painted with a charming scene of a castle, with a boat on a river in the foreground and the spandrels are pretty sprigs of pink rose and convolvulus or morning glory.

Dyson and Brookhouse are listed as working between 1834 and 1837. ref watchmakers and clockmakers of the world, Brian Loomes. Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire, England.

The clock runs for 8 days and strikes hourly on a bell.

The movement is in excellent clean and fully running condition having been cleaned and serviced by our clockmaker. We have cut a pair of new hands to the pattern of the damaged originals.

The case is in excellent condition. There is some restoration to the hood door which has had new glass fitted and several pieces of mahogany cross banding replaced, as you can see in the pictures the restoration is well carried out. Some of the cross banding on the base of the hood has been replaced. We have fitted a new faux ivory knob to the hood door. Some veneer has been replaced on the plinth and we have made new feet from oak. The trunk door escutcheon has been remade in brass and a new lock fitted. We have replaced the ball and eagle, the weights and the pendulum. The majority of the case veneer is original including the lovely panels of flame mahogany - one has a shrinkage crack which is not unusual with veneered furniture. We have polished the case which looks great as you can see below. As usual with any antique item, there are some minor bruises and marks which only add to the antique charm of the clock.

A lovely country clock in excellent condition, ready to grace your home!
