Charming Antique Country Grandfather Clock - Circa 1835

~ Clockmaker - George Stacey, Worksop ~

~~ Very good Condition  ~~

A very nice country clock in rich mid brown oak and mahogany with high swan neck pediment to the hood and gothic arched trunk door.  The original painted arch dial shows a delightful village scene with country church.  The spandrels painted in shades of gold, blue and green with stylized flower.  A decorative clock to grace any hall, town or country!

The movement runs for 30 hours and strikes on a bell hourly.

It is in excellent clean and running condition. The weight is original, we have replaced the pendulum. The dial is in good original condition, there is some minor bubbling of the painting in the arch, but generally the dial is bright and clean. The hands are original, the minute hand has a repair which is strong.

The case is in very good and mostly original condition. We have replaced the glass which was was broken and polished the hood door. We have also replaced the missing patera and the ball and eagle finial. There is some loss of box wood stringing along the top and bottom panels of mahogany on the trunk. There is some wood worm damage to the top and bottom trunk mouldings, the mahogany veneer of the arched pediment, the back board and the seat board/cheek boards. The wood worm looks to be long dead and the holes filled with dirt and wax, we have not therefore treated the wood worm - as a precaution you should check for new activity periodically. A piece of veneer has been replaced on the left hand side of the arched pediment and also a couple on the underside of the hood top. There are two pieces of replaced veneer on the trunk door and the trunk door has faded slightly, probably due to sunlight. There is an old split on the left hand side of the plinth. The trunk door lock does not have a key - but the door does stay shut without locking.

George Stacey of Worksop, is listed in Brian Loomes "Clockmakers and Watchmakers of the World" as working between 1828 and 1855.

A lovely country clock in excellent condition, ready to grace your home!
