Fine Scottish Antique Georgian Mahogany Grandfather Clock

 Excellent Condition.

Very elegant slender case with long door. Finely constructed case of mostly solid mahogany with some veneer - it is understated and very chic. The white enamelled dial is painted with charming, slightly naive, allegorical scenes showing a fashionable young lady as ~ Commerce ~ Justice ~ Peace ~ Plenty.   Surmounted by a ship in full sail to the arch....please scroll down to see all the super pictures.

Movement is also of beautiful quality - Click the link below to see the clock running. It is of 8-day duration and strikes a bell hourly. We have cleaned and service the movement - it is in full working order. We have replaced the gut line with synthetic gut.

The solid mahogany door is inlaid with a n oval marquetry of a rose, and the bottom of the trunk with a grape vine . The sides of the hood have fretted panels inset and box wood stringing is inlaid around the plinth, trunk door and hood door. Chippendale sticks adorn the corners of the trunk.  

Condition of the case is excellent and original. The is a small split on the top left hand side of the hood door and a smaller one to the bottom of the trunk door. There is a slither of moulding missing and about 3/4" of dentil moulding missing from the top left hand side of the hood at the rear. The case is beautiful and very original - rich  brown mahogany. There are some very very minor knocks and scratches which you would expect with any antique item - largest is a bruise of about 3/4" . The date does not operate. The Minute and hour hands are original and lovely - we have made a seconds and date hand to replace the missing originals. The glass is original. The back board has been reattached recently and a new seat board has been made. Our dial restorer has touched in the lettering and painting - the majority of the painting is original and looks superb as you can see below .
