Sevres
Porcelain and Gilt Metal Boudoir Clock. ~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled & working ~~ A beautiful antique French boudoir clock of gilt metal mounted with exquisitely painted Sevres style porcelain. Porcelain has a pompadour blue ground and each piece is delicately decorated with floral swags and over glaze gilt decoration. The panel below the dial is charmingly painted with a reclining cherub lying amongst roses. The reverse of the porcelain is signed by the artist and the rear of the case is signed for the case maker 'Brunfaut' (see pictures below). The French movement is of very high quality and has Japy Freres 'Grande Medaille D'Honneur' mark on the movement backplate. It is a superior model, having the benefit of rack striking and pin-pallet escapement. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is
good, there is wear to the gilding and we have polished it to a bright and clean
finish. The condition of the porcelain is also good. There is some wear to the
over-glaze gilt decoration, particularly on the dial. The rear of the urn has
been repaired at some time although this is only noticeable on close inspection.
The clock displays beautifully as you can see below.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
