Superb Antique French Gothic Clock - Japy Freres

A super Antique French Gothic clock by Japy Freres. The clock is beautifully made in brass - very heavy and crisply modelled. The gilding has worn to give a lovely warm patina - as you can see in the pictures below. Straight out of mythology, the clock is decorated with lions masks and winged creatures. The front of the clock is decorated with banners and stands on paw feet. The dial is enamel and the bezel is cast with the egg and dart border. Its enamel dial has a cast centre and the glass is convex.

The French Japy Freres movement is of excellent quality and has the better pin pallet escapement. The Japy Freres mark is on the back plate of the movement. The movement runs for 8 days and strikes on a bell.

Condition of the the movement is excellent, clean and running condition ready for your home. We have cleaned and serviced the movement, re-blued the delicate steel hands and replaced the pendulum.

Condition of the case and enamel dial is excellent - there are a couple of minor hairline cracks in the dial and the surface is crazed which only adds to the antique look of the clock. The case is very heavy and is complete with no losses. The gilded finish has worn to give a beautiful patina, high spots are a deep brown - the clock looks great as you can see below.

The clock comes complete with pendulum, key and bell!
