Huge Antique French Cartel Wall Clock
Knight and Lions Rampant

A magnificent silvered brass cartel clock featuring a knight and two Lions Rampant standing guard above the clock. It is 33 1/2 inches in height and is profusely and boldly decorated, the knight is particularly well modelled. He stands guard in a niche above the dial, flanked by the lions. Below the lions are a pair of grotesque masks. The large dial is designed with a fire breathing dragon to the centre. It is mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouche letters and the bezel is fitted with convex glass. Above the dial is a baroque swan neck pediment. 

The modelling of the clock is bold and elaborate and well finished. This is a large and heavy clock that will require a substantial screw or spike to support it.

The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is good, the silver finish is worn and has areas of discolouration and tarnish and is not bright and shiny, this lends the clock a mellow antique appearance which particularly suits it. The dial is in good condition with no chips or scratches to the cartouches. 

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
