Antique French Clock Set - Japy Freres

A very decorative French gilt brass clock set by Japy Freres. Beautifully modelled classical style with mermaids to the sides of the clock and the urns of the candelabra. The front of the clock is fretted to allow the pendulum to be seen, this also lightens the design. The top of the clock is surmounted by a flame finial.

The enamel dial is lettered in blue and is complete with the original gilt brass fretted hands.

The Japy Freres movement is of excellent quality and has the makers mark on the back plate of the movement. The movement runs for 8 days and strikes on a bell and is in excellent, clean and running condition. Click the movie below to hear the bell strike.

Condition of the case is excellent, there are no losses and the finish of the gilt brass has mellowed to a lovely rich antique patina, with the high spots worn. Candelabra arms are slightly distorted and there is an old repair to one stem. The enamel dial is in very good condition - some very slight ware to the lettering.

The clock is complete with its original bell and a replacement pendulum.
