Very Large and Stunning Antique French Figural Clock Set
After XAVIER RAPHANEL
Le Pilote, La Rentree

~ French - Circa 1910 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A large and stunning clockset of beautiful modelled bronzed patinated metal figures mounted on ebonised wooden bases, not marked but after Xavier Raphanel. The clockset is a brilliant depiction of adventure. A sailor at the helm of a small wooden boat, riding a boiling froth of a sea, full of life and vigor. Followed by Le pilote, the sailor explores a far off land and then La Rentree (the return) is a charming depiction of a mother and child.

The dial is enamel on copper with floral swags and finely fretted gilt brass hands.

The French movement is by Société Clusienne of Cluses near the Swiss border. It is of the good quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. Pendulum has been replaced and it runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. It is unusual in having silvered plates. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the figures is very good, there is some wear to the patination in places and a tiny repair to the babies finger. Dial is excellent with no chips or scratches. A stunning and unusual clockset to add to your collection.

Clockmakers mark Société Clusienne of Cluses on the movement backplate

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
